THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
MUIRFIELD 2013
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Club have accepted an invitation from the R & A to provide club marshals to marshal a hole at The Open Championship next year. I have been appointed Hole Controller and Andy Heatherill appointed Deputy Hole Controller for our club. Our duties are to recruit, organise and supervise our marshalling team to enable them to play their part in ensuring that The Open Championship is marshalled safely and successfully.
Marshals will supervise spectators on the tees, greens, crossings, in grandstands and will also act as ball spotters. Club marshals both male and female will be expected to be on duty for a minimum of one practice day and three championship days on a shift rota. They will then become eligible for a jacket, cap and marshal accreditation for the Championship. Practice days start on Sunday 14th July and the Championship ends on Sunday 21st July although Monday 22nd July is reserved in case of rain delays. As a guide, the R & A have suggested that marshals be aged between 21 and 65; however any volunteers over 65 will be most welcome so long as they are actively fit and able to do the job.
Any member who would like to apply to become a marshal can do so by completing an application form and returning it to the Secretary’s office. Forms can be obtained from behind the bar or can be downloaded from the Link below. They should be completed and returned no later than Friday 11th January 2013.
